The rules
- For heavy spears, just as for Danaxes, it will once again be compulsory to take an individual test to determine whether you are sufficiently safe when using this weapon and whether you have at least a basic grasp of how to handle it. Only those who pass the test will be allowed to fight with a heavy spear during Herja!
The equipment
- Tighter rules on visible tape: Permitted colours and areas
- We have standardised the dimensions of the blunt heads for one-handed axes and Danaxes, to prevent Danaxe heads from being used as one-handed axes. See the rules for one-handed axes and Danaxes
- The straps on Shields must now be made of rawhide or leather. Fabric is no longer permitted!
- Added Steel Greaves to the list of permitted equipment for Carolingians in heavy armour.
- You must wear a glove on each hand, even on the hand holding the shield
- Regulations on the use of capes during combat
- A rule regarding the proper handling of one’s weapon has been added to ensure a minimum level of consistency
- From now on, only leather belts and some woollen belts are permitted. Rope belts are not allowed!
- From this year onwards, archers are no longer required to wear gloves, but restrictions apply if they choose not to! You can find these changes in the Bow Safety section.
