Tournaments

What could be better than tournaments to measure yourself against the other participants and judge your skills in a friendly atmosphere?

At Herja we're organising 2 tournaments, with the first rounds on Saturday and the finals on Sunday, so there's no risk of you missing out even if you're not available on Friday.

In 2023, we added a glima tournament on Friday evenings.

Register for tournaments

When you register for the event on this site, we ask you to pre-select which tournament(s) you would like to take part in. This is not a definitive choice; it is mainly used by the organisers to get an idea of the number of participants so that they can prepare the organisation as well as possible in advance.

What's more, there's nothing compulsory about taking part in the tournaments - you only sign up if you want to. You can just enter the duels tournament, but not the bridge or glima tournaments.

You actually register for these tournaments when you arrive at Reception, where your choices will be reconfirmed and validated. However, you have until Saturday lunchtime (except for the glima, where you have until Friday lunchtime) to change your mind about taking part in the tournaments.

Duels

In the form of a tournament, come and test your skills in single combat, all weapons combined.

Each duel (1 VS 1) takes place over 3 winning rounds (so a maximum of 5 rounds) and lasts a maximum of 2 minutes (for the whole duel), all in a 5m by 5m area.

During this tournament, as it is individual, the restrictions on the maximum number of weapons (sword, sabre, danaxe, etc.) and protection (helmet, chain mail, lamellar) per group do not count. However, it is forbidden to give protection from one participant to another during the tournament. It is also forbidden to change weapons between 2 rounds during a duel.

Projectile weapons not authorised!

Bridge

Compete in teams of 5 in a confined area with a shield placed on the ground in each side's starting zone. There are two ways to win:
- kill all opponents
- hit the opponent's shield without being killed

The combat zone is a representation of a bridge (4m x 8m) that both teams want to take control of, so if you step outside you're thrown into the water you're out.

Projectile weapons not allowed ! Regarding the restrictions on equipment during bridges, those on weapons are cancelled. However, for protection, the restrictions aren't just lifted, armour no longer counts in terms of hit protection. Someone wearing lamellar armour, for example, counts as if they were wearing a woollen tunic. The choice to wear such protection during bridges is therefore purely aesthetic.
