For Herja, we have two important objectives: historicity and safety!
That's why we're asking participants to wear historically accurate equipment (clothing and weapons) during the fights, and only during the fights, to ensure that the immersion experience is as realistic as possible.
For this reason, and to guarantee your safety in particular, it is perfectly acceptable to wear modern elements (plastic) or non-historic elements (leather). However, they must be obligatorily and completely concealed at all times during the battle or combat.
There are, of course, exceptions, such as the fencing mask and simulators, which are modern items, or the leather/wool gloves, which are not historically accurate, but which are essential to keep you as safe as possible.
Another important point when designing your equipment is consistency both in terms of period and geographical area.
We ask you to respect not only the types of clothing but also the patterns and colours of fabric that are historically compatible with each other. Slavic trousers should not be combined with a Franc tunic and a Norwegian belt, for example.
But this also applies to your weapons and protection. A warrior cannot be dressed as a Norwegian, but must have a Frankish sword, a composite bow, a Norman shield and a Slavic helmet.
