Shooting weapons

If we want to obtain armies that are consistent in terms of weaponry and protection, we need to take the time to gather and study historical and archaeological data. We have drawn some conclusions, which are presented here. We have also had to make certain compromises between historicity and security.

The proportion of certain weapons and protection is limited to reflect the reality of the battlefield. An average is given for groups of five or ten fighters. Limitations on the number of weapons and protections apply to all fighters registered in the same group. It's up to each of us to respect this in order to have coherent armies.

Bow

Used primarily for hunting and fishing, the bow is a real technological advance. It made up for the lack of strength of the person using it by improving the speed, range and impact power of the projectile. Nothing less was needed for the bow to become a formidable weapon of war. As it did not require expensive materials to build, this weapon was very widespread.

Rules
During the fighting

Shooting weapons are sometimes not allowed on the battlefield, in order to offer a different combat experience.

We therefore recommend that you bring a valid one-handed weapon so that you can take part in these specific battles.

For archers, during large battles and certain other activities, a shield on the back or side is mandatory.

Warning! A shield carried in front of you is prohibited, as is removing it voluntarily during battle (see shield rules).

Security

Power is limited to a maximum of 25 pounds!

Your weapons must be in good condition and secure: no rust, no burrs, no splinters, no sharp edges or points.

We recommend

The difficulty with the Herja bows is that, for historical reasons, we require historically compatible dimensions and materials. But at the same time, we're asking for 25 pounds of power, which is relatively low in order to ensure the safety of the participants during the fights.

This is why we recommend the use of bows for GN, visually compatible with the right power.

All weapons will be checked before the start of the fight. The decisions taken by those in charge at that time will be indisputable.

The organisers reserve the right not to validate a weapon if they consider it to be non-compliant, even if it complies with the above rules.
